Planetarium of Pará celebrates Environment Week with varied programming
The programming will include workshops, lectures, dome sessions, exhibitions, storytelling, and playful activities

In reference to World Environment Day, celebrated next Thursday, 05, the Center for Science and Planetarium of Pará (CCPPA) and the Graduate Program in Education and Teaching of Sciences in the Amazon (PPGEECA) at the State University of Pará (Uepa) will hold the event "Environment Week at CCPPA". The programming will take place on June 04 and 05 and will include workshops, lectures, dome sessions, exhibitions, storytelling, and playful activities. Registration is free and can be done via online form.
The Week will focus on the theme "Debating and reflecting on (socio) environmental issues, based on new educational practices in the Amazon context" and will involve various audiences. The coordinator of PPGEECA, Priscyla Luz, emphasizes that the partnership between CCPPA and PPGEECA, through the event, aims to "strengthen the debate in the area, the formation of critical actions on environmental issues, and the development of educational and sustainable practices and research, aimed at the various contexts of the Amazon of Pará."
According to the biology technician at CCPPA, Fernanda Barros, promoting Environment Week at the Planetarium of Pará is a way to reaffirm the commitment to environmental education. "We designed this programming with care, to meet our different audiences, such as schools, the general public, and the academic community, as we believe that everyone has an important role in preserving the planet. It is an opportunity to reflect, learn, and be inspired to act for the environment," she states.
Programming - The activities will begin on Wednesday, 04, in the morning, when the scheduled schools for visiting CCPPA will have the opportunity to attend the thematic dome session, featuring the short film "Forest that Refreshes" from the Sabiá Center, provided by the NGO Ecofalante; and the video "Experiences of Residents of Islands of Belém," produced by the CCPPA team.
Starting at 2 PM on Wednesday, 04, the public will have the opportunity to participate in the workshop "Turning Waste into Life: the power of composting." At 3 PM, there will be a dome session, featuring the aforementioned videos, followed by thematic practices during the guided visit to CCPPA. Visitors will also be able to check out the exhibition "Sowing Life: how seed dispersal occurs in the Amazon," a joint initiative between the Emílio Goeldi Paraense Museum and the Center for Science and Planetarium of Pará. The initiative proposes a sensitive and scientific look at seed-dispersing animals - such as agoutis, tapirs, birds, and fish - fundamental agents in the regeneration of forests and the maintenance of Amazonian biodiversity.
The programming on Wednesday will also include storytelling and playful activities aimed at children, in the "Tião's Playroom," based on the book "The Story of the Children Who Planted a River," by author Daniel Leite. The action will be conducted by storyteller Ludimila Maia, from 3:45 PM to 5 PM.
At 9 AM on Thursday, 05, the solemn table of the event will be composed, with the presence of managers and professors from the State University of Pará, followed by the symbolic planting of an Ipê seedling. After that, there will be a lecture on "Climate Change and its Implications in the Amazon," given by Uepa professor Rodrigo Oliveira. From 2 PM to 4 PM, there will be a dialogue table on "Educational products/processes as proposals for implementing practices and training on environmental themes," with alumni from PPGEECA.

The programming on Thursday afternoon will also include the workshop "Environmental Chemistry: processes for converting organic waste into energy," at 2:30 PM, aimed at participants of the Extension Project "Astrociência: Girls in Sciences in Pará," and will conclude with the workshop "Electrochemistry in action: the contribution to sustainability and environmental preservation," at 4 PM, aimed at the audience registered for the event.
