Care and moments of life celebration mark patient’s birthday at the Women’s Hospital of Pará
The surprise celebration was prepared by the nutrition and nursing teams of the unit

Not all birthdays are celebrated at home, but at the Women’s Hospital of Pará (HMPA), even a hospital bed can become a scene of affection. As told by Castanhal resident, Ilana Cavalcanti, who on the morning of this Sunday (8), celebrated her 38th birthday, surrounded by care and affection, with the unit's team.
“I was very happy, really, and I even asked my companion if she had made the cake, but she said no, that it was the team here at the hospital, and I was very happy because I am far from home, far from my family, but I feel very welcomed and very loved, very well taken care of, thank God,” declared the patient who is hospitalized for surgery to remove a fibroid.

The planning for the birthday surprise began the day before. According to the supervisor of the hospital's nutrition service team, Marcela Maira, a meticulous preparation of the personalized cake recipe is carried out. “We made a cake with ingredients allowed in her dietary plan, observing the protocols for the patient’s health and well-being. In addition, we do more than just produce a healthy sweet; we seek to deliver affection,” said the nutritionist responsible for the recipe.
The moment of life celebration reveals how the appreciation of the multiprofessional team, especially in nutrition and nursing, is essential to promote a more humane hospital environment that is sensitive to the emotional needs of patients, also showing that it is possible to find space for gestures that nourish both the body and the heart.
“At the Women’s Hospital of Pará, each patient is treated with the experience of qualified professionals, yes, but also with soul, through a loving gesture. This is the essence we seek to strengthen every day,” concludes the general director of HMPA, intensivist doctor Nelma Machado.
