The Civil Police of Pará, through the Elderly Protection Police Station (DPPID) and with the support of the Disability Protection Police Station (DPPcD), units linked to the Directorate for Assistance to Vulnerable Groups (DAV), executed four search and seizure warrants and one preventive arrest warrant for crimes against the elderly on Tuesday (17). The warrants were executed during the operation 'Amparo Violeta', in the areas of Belém, Ananindeua, and Magalhães Barata.

"The operation was launched by the DPPID with the aim of investigating and addressing occurrences of financial abuse against elderly individuals that occurred this year. During the operation, our teams had the support of 13 civil police officers who carried out searches from the Metropolitan Region of Belém to the municipality of Magalhães Barata, in order to comply with judicial orders and collect the necessary information to verify the case's information and combat criminal practices," highlights the head of the DPPID, delegate Vanessa Macedo.

The preventive arrest warrant was issued by the Criminal Court of Police Inquiries and Precautionary Measures of Belém and refers to a woman suspected of the crime of fraud against the elderly and document forgery. According to the investigations, she was in a relationship with a 90-year-old man and falsified his age to obtain various loans from financial institutions.

“We also found that she managed all of the victim's income, who only became aware of the crime after falling ill. We located the suspect and executed the preventive arrest. Shortly after, she was taken to the police station for the necessary legal measures,” continued delegate Vanessa Macedo.

During the execution of the search and seizure warrants, various electronic materials, documents, and the victim's belongings were found and seized. The electronic devices were sent for forensic analysis to conduct examinations and extract content. Investigations continue to clarify all information regarding the crime.

The operation 'Amparo Violeta' aims to combat financial abuse and other criminal practices against the elderly and was conceived in reference to June 15, the date chosen by the United Nations (UN) for the 'World Elder Abuse Awareness Day'.

The Civil Police of Pará alerts the population of Pará to the rights violations suffered by elderly individuals and encourages immediate reporting in cases of financial abuse and other crimes against the elderly, through Disque 100 or Disque-Denúncia 181.

Additionally, reports can be made in person at the Elderly Protection Police Station (DPPID), located in the capital of Pará, at Rua Domingos Marreiros, 2019 - Umarizal.
