The integrated team from the Fluvial Base Antônio Lemos, linked to the State Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), located in the Marajó Archipelago, seized over a ton of irregular fish, with various species, on the morning of this Monday (23). The merchandise, which left the municipality of Almeirim, in the Lower Amazon Integration Region, western Pará, was destined for Belém. All the seized fish was donated to the Church of Peace in Breves, which distributed it among families in the riverside community near the Base.

The population received the fish seized by the police

The seizure occurred during a routine inspection of the vessel "F/B Amazonas VI". The verification was carried out by agents from the Environmental Police Battalion (BPA) of the Military Police, who found that the fish was being transported in coolers without the documentation required by law, which includes proof of origin or authorization from the competent authority, and proper storage. Due to the quantity, which totaled 1,230 kilograms, the fish should have been stored in a refrigerated chamber.

Fines - The cargo was seized, along with nine freezers and three large coolers. The commander of the vessel received a fine of R$ 22,770.00, and the shipping company, cited for co-authorship in the transport, was fined R$ 30,700.00.

For Ualame Machado, head of Segup, the seizure demonstrates efficiency in combating environmental offenses and other crimes in the Pará river network. "It is important to emphasize that this type of infraction can represent other offenses, such as tax evasion. Furthermore, the lack of documentation required by law also compromises the verification of the origin of the fish. The work done at Base Antônio Lemos reinforces the commitment of public security to preserving order, including environmental issues," said the manager.
