Operation ‘Esparavel II’ ends with 88 days without homicides in Igarapé-Miri

Arrests, seizures of weapons and drugs, and the establishment of investigative procedures resulted from the action launched by Segup in the Lower Tocantins

After 19 days, the Operation “Esparavel II”, launched by the State Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup) in conjunction with other state agencies in the area present in the municipality of Igarapé-Miri and surrounding areas, in the Tocantins Integration Region, was concluded this Monday (23) with arrests, seizures of weapons and drugs, and the establishment of investigative procedures. The main result was to keep the municipality free of homicides for 88 days (almost three months).

The State Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado, highlighted the actions developed by the Public Security System within the scope of the Operation, which resulted in the maintenance of crime indicators in the region that includes Igarapé-Miri.

“The results achieved, with arrests, seizures of weapons, ammunition, and drugs, demonstrate the effectiveness and professionalism of the security forces involved. Furthermore, the mark of 88 days without homicides is a testament to the positive impact of the Operation on the safety and tranquility of the local community. I congratulate the entire team for the excellent work carried out, which reinforces the Government's commitment to the protection and well-being of the population,” said Ualame Machado.

Since the launch of “Esparavel II” on June 5, there have been 14 arrests, 10 in flagrant offenses and four by warrant execution. Among the 16 seized firearms are rifles, shotguns, revolvers, pistols, and replicas, as well as .38, .44, 9mm, and .380 ammunition. Regarding narcotics, there were 1.34 kg of marijuana and 6g of oxi, in addition to precision scales and packaging material.

Through the Itinerant Civil Police Station, the Operation resulted in the conclusion of an inquiry and a request for preventive detention. The Penal Police conducted 13 intensified monitoring inspections of individuals released with electronic ankle bracelets. There was also a rescue of a victim of domestic violence and the recovery of a outboard motor.

Ostensible Presence - More than 80 security agents were mobilized in ostensible and preventive actions in the municipality and surrounding region. The actions included inspections at checkpoints on access roads and streets of the municipality, in order to curb illicit activities with the ostensible presence of teams on the streets and at the Civil Police Station of the Lower Tocantins. Aircraft and thermal drones were employed in the fight against crime

There were also actions in the rivers and channels of the region, reinforcing patrolling with boats, and promoting the approach of riverside communities with the Community Police, informing them of the public security reporting channels, so that they can contribute to combating criminal activities.

The Operation involved the Civil and Military Police, the State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (Seap), the State Traffic Department (Detran), the Deputy Secretariat of Intelligence and Criminal Analysis (Siac), the River Grouping (GFlu), and the Air Security Grouping (Graesp), both linked to Segup.
