Pará Women's Hospital Expands Gynecological Emergency Care
Bleeding, pelvic pain, and ovarian abscesses are among the cases that can now be treated under the emergency profile, which was previously reserved only for victims of sexual and domestic violence.

In another advancement to ensure health support for the female public, the Pará Women's Hospital (HMPA) now offers gynecological emergency and urgent care. This measure expands access to emergency services, which were exclusively for victims of sexual and domestic violence.
According to the general director of HMPA, intensive care physician Nelma Machado, the new profile promotes the inclusion of "women with acute gynecological bleeding, intense pelvic pain, which is commonly associated with endometriosis, cysts or ovarian abscesses, as well as breast inflammations, such as abscesses in lactating women and genital infections, such as Bartholinitis, inflammation of the Bartholin glands located at the entrance of the vagina, which can cause pain, swelling, and in some cases, abscess formation."

The manager emphasized that the expansion of care is a decisive step within the state policy for women's health. "We have started to receive patients with conditions that characterize gynecological emergencies, which we did not have before. With this new entry point, we can offer a complete cycle of care: from prevention in outpatient clinics, through surgeries, to gynecological emergencies and women in situations of violence," she stressed.

The Emergency Service of HMPA is aimed at women aged 19 and older, reinforcing the commitment of the Government of Pará to ensure comprehensive care for women's health.
The initiative responds to a growing demand from this public. The Women's Hospital is a safe, specialized, and welcoming space that prioritizes women's health on the state public agenda.
Service: To access exams and consultations at the Pará Women's Hospital, the patient must initially seek care at a Basic Health Unit (UBS), at a health unit in the municipality where they reside or the nearest region, or obtain a medical referral at the Usinas da Paz. The Pará Women's Hospital is located at Avenida Gentil Bittencourt, No. 2175, São Brás neighborhood.
