The Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio), through the Directorate of Forest Chain Development (DDF), delivered a nursery for the population of the municipality of São Miguel do Guamá, in northeastern Pará. The action was carried out in partnership with the Municipal City Hall, through the Municipal Agriculture Secretariat.

The structure has a production capacity of up to 15 thousand seedlings of forest and fruit species, focusing on meeting the demands of Agroforestry Systems (SAFs) and adds to the other six nurseries in the municipality. In total, these spaces have the capacity to produce 100 thousand seedlings per year.

According to Ideflor-Bio, the equipment is strategic to strengthen environmental recovery actions and income generation among local communities, by encouraging the cultivation of native and economically valuable fruit species.

The nursery was built with a galvanized iron metal structure and features a shade cloth cover with 50% shading, which ensures the ideal protection for the development of the seedlings. In addition, the sprinkler irrigation system will ensure a regular water supply, improving the management and quality of the produced plants.

Incentive - According to the agronomist and Forest Technology manager of Ideflor-Bio, Cleberson Salomão, the activity was carried out to strengthen the actions of the Agroforestry Systems Project (Prosaf). “We have already developed Prosaf activities in several communities in São Miguel and our goal, from this action, is to reach more farmers,” he highlighted.

Cleberson Salomão also emphasized that the establishment of the nursery will bring benefits both to the municipality and to the population. “These nurseries will help the municipality in forest restoration actions, in addition to generating economic and environmental benefits for the farmers served by the project in the municipality,” he added.
