The Public General Hospital of Castle of Dreams (HGPCS), in the southwest of Pará, launched the project "What if the baby chokes?", an educational action aimed at preventing accidents with newborns. The initiative, developed by the Humanization Commission of the unit, targets pregnant women, postpartum women, and caregivers of babies treated at the hospital and outpatient clinic.

The project focuses on training parents, mothers, and caregivers to identify and act correctly in cases of child choking. The implementation of the project involved the participation of mothers and was led by the care manager Camila Lira.

Camila conducted a practical demonstration of the Heimlich maneuver adapted for babies on June 25th. She clearly explained the procedures that can save lives in critical moments. The guidance for mothers will be held every Wednesday.

The participants also received an exclusive e-book containing the step-by-step of the technique, as well as useful guidance for daily care of newborns. The material reinforces the project's proposal to promote not only information but also the autonomy and safety of families.

According to the Humanization Commission of the hospital, the action reinforces the commitment to welcoming and health education as tools for comprehensive care. "The project 'What if the baby chokes?' goes beyond prevention: it strengthens the bond between the hospital and the community, expanding the reach of safe and humanized assistance," said Camila Lira.

The general director of HGPCS, Diego Carlis, highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative. "We believe that health care goes beyond hospital care. Projects like 'What if the baby chokes?' represent our commitment to prevention and health education. Training mothers, fathers, and caregivers to act in emergency situations is a way to save lives and strengthen the bond between the hospital and the community," he stated.

Testimonials move and reinforce the importance of the project

For many participants, the training is already making a difference. Pregnant woman Jessica Moreira de Ataídes, a resident of Castle of Dreams, participated in the activity after a consultation with the obstetrician at the outpatient clinic and highlighted the relevance of what she learned. "When my children were babies and choked, I would panic and pass them to someone else to hold. Now I know what to do. I leave here much more confident," she said.

Postpartum woman Danilla Sabrina Silva Lope, who underwent an elective cesarean section at the unit, reported that the guidance received was essential to increase her confidence. "I am a first-time mother and was quite insecure. The training was clear, useful, and made me more prepared to care for my baby in any emergency."

With the project "What if the baby chokes?", HGPCS takes another step in promoting preventive health and humanized care, reaffirming its role as a reference in serving the population of Castle of Dreams and the region.

Regional reference
With 34 beds, both operational and non-operational, the Public General Hospital of Castle of Dreams is a regional reference for low-complexity care. The unit offers consultations, exams, surgeries, and follow-ups in seven medical specialties: General Surgery, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, and Internal Medicine.

Belonging to the Government of Pará, the hospital has been consolidating itself as a safe haven for the local population, always focusing on social inclusion and ethical, humanized, and qualified care.
