Detran reinforces guidance for drivers during the July holidays
The agency warns about the risks on the roads and intensifies inspection and education actions on state highways

With the start of school holidays and the consequent increase in vehicle traffic on state highways, especially towards beaches and tourist cities in Pará, the State Department of Transit (Detran) reinforces road safety guidance for drivers planning to travel during the month of July.
The expectation is for increased movement on the roads, which requires heightened attention from drivers. According to Detran, among the main factors contributing to accidents during this period are speeding, improper overtaking, use of mobile phones while driving, vehicle maintenance failures, and, primarily, the combination of alcohol and driving, one of the leading causes of traffic fatalities.
The agency recommends that before hitting the road, drivers conduct a thorough vehicle inspection, checking items such as the braking system, tires (including the spare), lighting, windshield wipers, engine oil, and cooling system. Documentation must also be up to date, as both the vehicle registration and the National Driver's License (CNH) need to be valid, under the risk of fines and vehicle retention.

Planning the route in advance is another important measure to avoid unforeseen events. Detran advises drivers to map out the best routes, identify gas stations, and schedule breaks for rest along the way. Night travel, especially on poorly lit or unfamiliar roads, should be avoided whenever possible.
Throughout the month, inspections on highways will be intensified, with the use of breathalyzers and the presence of agents at strategic points on the state's main roads. The goal is to curb violations and ensure greater road safety.
Education agents are also present at the accesses to the main beaches to engage drivers and alert them about the main risk factors for accidents.
The technical-operational director of Detran, José Bento Gouvea, emphasizes that responsibility on the road should be a priority for everyone. “Anyone hitting the road this weekend should double their attention: check the vehicle, always wear a seatbelt, avoid using a mobile phone while driving, and never drive under the influence of alcohol. It is also essential to ensure that all documentation is up to date. We will have education and inspection teams operating in various stretches, as our commitment is to preserve life. We want everyone to enjoy their holidays safely and responsibly,” he states.

For those traveling with children, the proper use of restraint devices, such as car seats, booster seats, or seat belts, according to the child's age and weight, is mandatory and essential to ensure the safety of the little ones throughout the journey.
Another point of attention is the physical and mental state of the driver. Detran advises that the driver should be well-rested before starting the trip and recommends breaks every two hours for rest, stretching, and hydration, in order to avoid fatigue while driving.
