Between June 30 and July 4, 2025, the Military Police of Pará, through the 2nd Rural Police Battalion (2nd BPR), promoted the II Training on Georeferencing and Technologies Applied to Rural Policing. The training, which focused on modernizing and enhancing the effectiveness of police actions in rural areas of the region, was directed at the personnel of the 52nd BPM, a newly inaugurated unit in Altamira.

The instruction trained 30 military police officers from the Altamira Rural Battalion, who participated in an intense week of theoretical and practical training, based on the expertise of the 2nd Rural Police Battalion located in Castanhal, a reference in combating crime in the countryside.

According to Colonel Guimarães, the general coordinator of the training aimed at specialized battalions in rural policing, the qualification plays an essential role in structuring the new battalion.

“With the creation of the Altamira Rural Battalion, there was a need to train military police officers with specific disciplines so that they would have a basic understanding of community policing, geoprocessing, and georeferencing, in addition to the doctrine of rural policing and the history of rural patrols in Pará, so that they can carry out activities using these technologies and knowledge to map the rural area, register rural properties, create a database to plan actions, both preventive and reactive, reducing response time to public safety demands related to the rural population,” explained the officer.

During the instruction, participants were introduced to cutting-edge technological tools used in rural policing, such as geolocation systems, digital map creation, registration and monitoring of rural properties, as well as community policing techniques. The training also included a practical activity, which resulted in the registration of 18 properties in the municipalities of Altamira, Vitória do Xingu, and Brasil Novo.

Another highlight was the qualification of four military police officers to work at the Rural Service and Monitoring Center, a structure created to receive and direct demands from the rural area, optimizing the response time of PMPA and ensuring a more agile and efficient service to the men and women of the countryside.

New battalion reinforces PM presence in Transamazonica

The training also marks a new moment for public safety in the region: the course was held in the new structure of the 52nd BPM, recently delivered to the municipality of Altamira. The space has facilities suitable for the personnel, in addition to allowing better planning and execution of police operations.

During the delivery of the battalion, the official announcement was made regarding the establishment of the Rural Battalion in Altamira, a strategy already successfully applied in other regions of the State. The new unit's mission is to pacify rural areas, prevent land conflicts, combat drug trafficking, and other criminal practices in the countryside, strengthening the presence of the PM in hard-to-reach areas.

“It is worth noting that Altamira is the municipality with the largest territorial extension in Brazil, allowing, with this knowledge, to have greater control over the rural area, directing policing and being more effective and efficient in addressing police occurrences related to the rural area of this region, which encompasses about eight municipalities with the Battalion headquarters in Altamira,” concluded Colonel Guimarães.
