During another weekend in July, the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity (Ideflor-Bio) reinforces its activities in five municipalities in Pará with educational activities, enforcement actions, and initiatives aimed at valuing local culture and environmental conservation. The agenda is part of the Summer Operation 2025, carried out by the Government of Pará, and includes the cities of Salinópolis, Soure, Salvaterra, São Geraldo do Araguaia, and Maracanã, with a special focus on Conservation Units (UCs) and coastal areas most frequented by summer visitors.

With an integrated program, the Institute reinforces, every weekend, its role as a protagonist in building ecological awareness in Pará, involving local communities, tourists, and public authorities in a true preservation effort.

The president of Ideflor-Bio, Nilson Pinto, highlighted the importance of the agency's presence in the most visited regions during the Amazonian summer. “Our commitment is to ensure that the tourist use of our natural beauties occurs in a conscious and responsible manner. We are combining education, enforcement, and citizenship so that each summer visitor becomes an agent of preservation,” he stated.

Coast - In Salinópolis, in the northeast of the state, the stretch of Atalaia Beach known as Ponta da Sofia continues with a strong protection scheme for coastal fauna. The region is the main nesting point for sea turtles in the municipality and is under permanent surveillance. To ensure the integrity of the nests, a physical barrier has been set up from the 3rd access shortcut, preventing the entry of motorized vehicles onto the sand. Security agents and Ideflor-Bio teams conduct educational rounds, guiding drivers and bathers.

Next to the barrier, an environmental education booth has attracted a large number of families. Children participate in playful activities, such as workshops, discussion circles, and the distribution of informational material about sea turtles. On Saturdays and Sundays, Ideflor-Bio distributes sustainable kits to summer visitors, including visors, eco-bags, reusable cups, and educational games. “It’s an opportunity to teach new generations the value of nature. My daughter was delighted to learn that turtles come here to lay their eggs,” said teacher Camila Rocha, who was visiting the resort.

In the APA Algodoal-Maiandeua, interaction with the community helps preservation actions during this summer period

The same occurs in the Environmental Protection Area (APA) Algodoal-Maiandeua, in the municipality of Maracanã, where the program continues until July 15 with daily actions at the pier, on Princesa Beach, and in the village square. In addition to educational approaches and the distribution of games, community clean-up efforts are being carried out on Sundays with community support. “The children enjoyed our little game so much that we spent the whole day in the square teaching about caring for the environment,” reported Ideflor-Bio employee Ana Paula Cruz.

Marajó - In Soure, the actions focus on environmental regularization and community education.

With the presence of technicians, a collective effort was made for guidance and issuance of Environmental Protection Quotas (CPAs), a mechanism that allows the compensation of Legal Reserve liabilities through the conservation of protected areas. Environmental games were also held with children and youth in local schools, promoting concepts such as recycling, planting seedlings, and ecological games.

In the neighboring municipality of Salvaterra, the Management of the Administrative Region of Marajó (GRM) and the Eastern Marajó Regional Office of Ideflor-Bio were present at the 1st Family Agriculture Fair, integrating actions to promote local production and environmental education. The initiative, in partnership with the Municipal Department of Agriculture and agencies such as the Pará Agricultural Defense Agency (Adepará), aims to value the Marajoara way of life and promote sustainable practices.

In Soure and Salvaterra, in Marajó, preservation actions occurred concurrently with the Family Agriculture Fair

Carajás - In the southeastern part of Pará, in São Geraldo do Araguaia, two teams operated on the beaches of the communities of Vila Santa Cruz and Vila Ilha de Campo, conducting educational blitzes with tourists and residents. The activities included environmental games with children and an animated “litter hunt,” aimed at raising awareness about the correct disposal of waste and the importance of conserving riverine ecosystems.

In São Geraldo do Araguaia, southeast of the State, there were educational blitzes, distribution of environmental games, and a litter hunt

Coordinator of the Institute's actions throughout the state within the Summer Operation 2025, the director of Management and Monitoring of Conservation Units, Ellivelton Carvalho, reinforced the initiative's strategy. “Each action has a purpose: to protect our UCs, engage communities, and promote a new perspective on the environment. The Summer Operation is, above all, a great collective exercise in caring for our territory,” he declared.
