Hospital da Mulher's Playroom Welcomes Patients' Children with Safety and Care
The space is dedicated to children accompanying their mothers during consultations and procedures at the hospital unit
With a project designed to serve the female audience at all stages of life, the Hospital da Mulher do Pará (HMPA), in Belém, has been standing out not only for the quality of specialized services but also for initiatives that make a difference in welcoming, such as the playroom, a playful and colorful space specially designated for young children accompanying their mothers during consultations at the hospital unit.
The proposal of the playroom is to ensure a welcoming, safe, and fun environment for the patients' children, offering recreational activities while the mothers wait for care. For many women coming from other municipalities, this structure represents relief and comfort in a moment of vulnerability.

Beatriz Ramos, 37 years old, a resident of the municipality of São Sebastião da Boa Vista, in the Marajó Archipelago, felt the positive impact of the initiative. Mother of six children, she needed to take her youngest, Sofia, 5 years old, to the Hospital while waiting for an outpatient evaluation for a hernia correction surgery, diagnosed four years ago. "It's great because my daughter was distracted. Before the consultation, she was impatient, and it was when we came to this environment, where there are toys, and she loved it," reported Beatriz.

Rayane Diniz, also a resident of Marajó, sought the Hospital for gallbladder stone removal surgery. After facing difficulties to complete the procedure at another unit, she managed to get a referral through the Usina da Paz, in the Terra Firme neighborhood, and was welcomed at HMPA. "I found the service very good. A lady went up with me and my daughter and brought me to the waiting room. Upon arriving here, I already found the playroom wonderful because the women who come from the countryside with children, like me, have this nice, playful, colorful space where the children can play and have fun while we wait for the consultation," she said.
Comprehensive Care - According to the director of HMPA, intensivist doctor Nelma Machado, the playroom reinforces the unit's commitment to welcoming. "We know that many women come accompanied by small children, especially those who travel from cities farther from the capital. Offering a space for these children to play safely while their mothers are waiting for care ensures dignity, respect, and comprehensive care for women," highlighted the manager.
The initiative reinforces the role of the Hospital da Mulher do Pará as a reference not only in women's health but also in sensitive care to the realities of the most vulnerable patients. The playroom, more than just a leisure space, is a symbol of the Hospital's attentive gaze towards the multiple dimensions of female experience.
Service - To be treated at the Hospital da Mulher, the patient must initially seek care at a Basic Health Unit (UBS) or another health unit in the municipality where they reside or the nearest region, in addition to the medical referral from the Usinas da Paz. The Hospital da Mulher do Pará is located at Avenida Gentil Bittencourt, No. 2175, São Brás neighborhood.
