Construction of the Municipal Hospital of Almeirim reaches 80% completion
State government investment, in partnership with the City Hall, ensures the expansion of the unit to offer medium complexity services
The Government of Pará is committed to accelerating the delivery of the expansion and adaptation work of the Municipal Hospital of Almeirim, in the Lower Amazon Integration Region, western Pará. The project represents an investment of R$ 14,533,229.40 from the state government in improving the public health network, facilitated by the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), with a counterpart of R$ 614,409.29 from the City Hall of Almeirim, totaling R$ 15,147,638.69.
According to the State Secretary of Public Health, Ivete Vaz, by establishing agreements with the City Halls and investing resources in restructuring and expanding hospitals, Sespa strengthens the municipal health system with medium complexity services.
“Well-structured municipal hospitals can prevent simple cases from becoming severe and the need for transfer to regional hospitals, which have been built mainly to decentralize high complexity services in the state,” said the head of Sespa.

History - Remaining from an old Mixed Unit of Sespa, the Almeirim Hospital currently offers the local population outpatient and inpatient care in internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, surgery, and outpatient dentistry. It also has some imaging diagnostic services and graphic methods, as well as a clinical analysis laboratory.
With the expansion, the physical area will increase from 1,263 square meters to 2,535 square meters. The hospital unit will have more space, safety, and comfort for users of the Unified Health System (SUS).
Once completed, the Municipal Hospital will serve the population with outpatient and hospital services in the areas of internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, and surgery.
The inpatient sector will have 28 beds, including 10 in internal medicine, eight in obstetrics, six in pediatrics, three in surgery, and one for isolation.
The unit will also have two pre-delivery, delivery, and post-delivery (PPP) rooms, one with a bathtub, all adhering to the guidelines of the Stork Network from the Ministry of Health, aiming to provide humanized care to pregnant women before, during, and after childbirth.
In the Diagnostic Support area, the restructuring of the clinical analysis laboratory, and rooms for X-rays, electrocardiograms, and ultrasound are planned. There is also a forecast for the provision of physiotherapy services.

Integration - According to the Engineering Department of Sespa, the proposal seeks to integrate the different sectors of the unit, which are currently spread across various buildings, making it difficult to provide services. Thus, the unification of blocks, rationalization of flows, and proper zoning for the good functioning of the Hospital were proposed.
A care block was created, with exclusive waiting and differentiated entrance, reception, and waiting for outpatient care, diagnostic support, and physiotherapy.
The accesses were planned to avoid crossing flows between internal and external patients and staff. Thus, a patient who comes to the unit only for routine exams and consultations will not need to circulate through other areas unnecessarily.

Expectation – The population of Almeirim is eager for the delivery of the Municipal Hospital, as care for SUS users has been transferred to a temporary location.
According to Secretary Quézia dos Santos Brazão, 25, who gave birth to José Leonardo on June 14 at the temporary unit, the residents' expectation is that, finally, the population will have a structure where they feel welcomed with quality, humanization, respect, and empathy. “The Hospital is not just a place for emergencies and illnesses. For me, the Hospital is where we seek safety in the most delicate moments of our lives. Today, we are using the temporary hospital, but we have been waiting for a while to have the long-awaited modern hospital that can meet the municipality's demand. I hope it opens soon,” says the user.
Another resident eagerly awaiting the delivery is Elizodete da Silva Tavares, 55. She said that the population is very excited about the delivery of the Hospital because they believe it will significantly improve the quality of care in Almeirim and the region. “We hope this new structure brings more comfort, confidence, and safety for patients. It will facilitate and considerably improve our population's access to essential services, as access here is quite limited for patients,” she states.
