At Santa Casa, pregnancy to postpartum care are themes of event commemorating Pregnancy Day
The target audience of the educational action was formed by pregnant women hospitalized in the unit and staff of the institution
The program held on the morning of this Thursday (21) at Santa Casa do Pará, in Belém, provided a group of pregnant women hospitalized in the health unit, as well as staff of the institution, with multiprofessional guidance on maternal and baby health care, from pregnancy to the first months after birth.

Recommendations on preventing injuries and domestic accidents or risks posed by cosmetics and other chemical products, as well as instructions on breastfeeding, diaper changing, bathing, and proper accommodation of the newborn were also shared with the participants, reported nurse Silvia Brito, who was involved in organizing the event.
“We have a calendar of actions at Santa Casa and, as we are a maternal-infant reference, we thought of an event for our pregnant staff, but also involving the patients from the Casa da Gestante, which would contribute to breastfeeding, which is rich and free, and also guide how the mother should take care of herself during pregnancy and after giving birth, and how she should care for the baby at home,” said the nurse.

Knowledge - The activity also provided a moment of interaction among the pregnant women, with the exchange of experiences and an opportunity for them to ask questions to the health team. Pregnant with her first child, Maria Lucileide took the opportunity to learn more about baby care. “The information here is very rich, because sometimes we know some things, but we forget. I found it very valuable. The topics, everything we covered here, especially for a first-time mother like me,” she stated.
As a reference in maternal and baby care, Santa Casa do Pará performed nearly 19,000 emergency obstetric care services in the first half of this year alone. The unit has 344 maternal-infant beds and conducts more than 800 deliveries per month.

For over 100 years, World Pregnancy Day has been celebrated on August 15, drawing attention to the needs and well-being of pregnant women and their children, as well as raising awareness about the importance of caring for women's health during pregnancy, reinforcing the need for special attention, prenatal care, and support.
