Detran conducts educational action in Belém and reinforces traffic safety measures
Approaches on Avenida João Paulo II reinforce the preventive actions of the agency in road safety

The State Department of Transit (Detran), in partnership with the Municipal Secretary of Security, Public Order, and Mobility of Belém (Segbel), conducted an educational action on the morning of this Wednesday (10) on Avenida João Paulo II in Belém. Traffic education agents from Detran approached drivers and motorcyclists, providing guidance on safe driving, respect for traffic laws, and environmental care.
The activity was preventive in nature and aimed to draw attention to the main risk factors, such as using a cell phone while driving, the combination of alcohol and driving, speeding, and the lack of protective equipment, such as seat belts and helmets. Additionally, guidance on respecting pedestrian crossings and bike lanes, caring for motorcyclists and cyclists, and the importance of defensive driving was also reinforced.

Detran traffic education agent Lucas Aguiar explained that the action aims to reinforce safe habits in traffic and raise awareness among drivers and motorcyclists. “We are here reinforcing the importance of awareness, both for motor vehicle drivers and motorcyclists. Our goal is to remind that simple actions, such as wearing seat belts in all seats, are essential to save lives. Furthermore, we seek to promote sustainability by avoiding the distribution of printed materials and guiding drivers not to throw trash out of vehicle windows, a practice that, besides being a traffic violation, harms the city's cleanliness,” he emphasized.

Among the drivers approached was architect Eduardo Lima. A carioca, he has been in Belém for about a month and evaluated the initiative as essential for accident prevention. “I believe that every preventive educational measure is fundamental. The daily routine often leads to the neglect of safety rules, so actions that seek to prevent accidents and risks are very relevant. In our field, we work with occupational safety, always aiming to protect employees. Seeing this applied in traffic is equally important,” he stated.
Eduardo also commented on the traffic in Belém and the relevance of education for urban mobility. “Education is always crucial. Here, as in other cities, we notice both good and bad behaviors in traffic. These initiatives help correct inappropriate conduct and value correct attitudes,” he added.

According to Detran, the educational action reinforces the agency's commitment to being present on the streets, not only with enforcement but, above all, with educational work. “Dialogue with the population is essential. When we manage to create this space for listening and guidance, we plant a seed of awareness that can change habits and save lives,” added Lucas Aguiar.
The mobilization also served as a preview for the National Traffic Week, which will take place later this month, with a broad program aimed at raising public awareness about road safety. The expectation is that the calendar of actions will intensify citizens' reflection on each person's role in traffic and strengthen the culture of life preservation.
