The Department of Traffic of Pará (Detran) and the Secretary of Security, Public Order and Urban Mobility of Belém (Segbel) held a meeting on Monday (15) to align efforts to strengthen technical cooperation between the agencies. The meeting marked the first official agenda between the new general director of Detran-PA, Alexandre Burchacra, and the municipal secretary Luciano de Oliveira, focusing on the modernization of the capital's signage and the improvement of integrated traffic operations.

Among the planned actions are the renewal of horizontal and vertical signage, the modernization of the traffic light system, and the expansion of the use of technologies, such as flow reading cameras and artificial intelligence systems. The creation of a joint committee was also defined to monitor the execution of the projects, ensuring greater effectiveness of the actions, especially during periods of high movement, such as the Círio de Nazaré. The initiative reinforces the integration between state and municipality, promoting greater road safety, traffic fluidity, and better service to the population.

“We will form an integrated Detran-Segbel team to set goals, especially regarding traffic light, horizontal, and vertical signage. We are committed to doing our best for the smooth progress of the actions, especially during this period when Belém is preparing to be the capital of the world,” said Alexandre Burchacra, referring to the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which the city will host in November.

For Secretary Luciano de Oliveira, the initiative represents a step forward for urban mobility. “We are renewing the signage and modernizing the traffic lights, with flow reading cameras and artificial intelligence resources. This will bring more safety, organization, and efficiency to the capital's traffic,” he said.
