The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (Seap), started on Tuesday (23) the application of the National Exam for Certification of Competencies for Youth and Adults (Encceja PPL) 2025 in penal and socio-educational units of the State. More than 7,600 detainees are registered and eligible to participate in the assessment, which guarantees certification at the Elementary and High School levels for people in deprivation of liberty or serving socio-educational measures.

On the first day, assessments related to Elementary School were conducted, with tests in Natural Sciences and Mathematics in the morning, as well as Portuguese Language, Modern Foreign Language, Arts, Physical Education, Writing, History, and Geography in the afternoon. On Wednesday (24), it will be the turn of the High School exams, with Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Languages, Writing, and Human Sciences.

The tests reached practically all prison units in Pará, including the largest complexes, such as Santa Izabel do Pará, Marabá, and Santarém, as well as smaller units.

At the Santa Izabel Penitentiary Complex, which houses the largest prison population in the State, the coordinator of Prison Education at the Social Reintegration Directorate of Seap, Patrícia Sales Cardoso, monitored the exam and highlighted the organization of the application.

"Everything is going well, bags delivered on time, socioeconomic questionnaire also completed on time. We have almost 5,000 PPLs taking tests throughout the Complex, with 190 just in the URRS of Santa Izabel," the coordinator informed.

She also emphasized the importance of Encceja as a tool for social reintegration. "Encceja is a major milestone for the system because, thank God, every year we have been breaking records, both in registrations and certifications. The exam certifies the PPL at the Elementary and High School levels, allowing them to leave here with a more advanced level of education," she stated.

At the Women's Custody and Reintegration Unit (UCRF) in Ananindeua, 148 women participated in the exam. The pedagogue of the unit, Natali Bennasuly, highlighted that the preparatory work was essential for the smooth application. "We had 148 registered and prepared for the tests. We have this partnership with Seduc, which allows for preparation and makes them eligible to take the exam," she explained.

Among the participants, young Wanderleia Barbosa, 22, sees passing the exam as a chance to start over. "I see that it will improve my life. I intend to study, having an opportunity that many wanted to have and I am having. Education will help me on this path, improve more and more, and become a hairdresser, which is my big dream," she said.

Elida Rainice, 32, dreams of becoming a doctor and believes that education is the first step to achieving that goal. "I will improve my education, update myself, help my family, and continue my life when I leave here," she said.

Continuation of the exam

The Encceja PPL is conducted by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP) in partnership with the states. In Pará, Seap and the State Secretariat of Education (Seduc) ensure the logistics of application and the pedagogical preparation of candidates. The High School tests continue on Wednesday (24), with assessments in the morning and afternoon.
