Segup brings together over 80 public servants in a program on physical and mental health
The initiative enabled access to services for the prevention of physical and mental illnesses in a didactic and accessible manner
The State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), through the Directorate of Public Security Policy and Social Prevention (DPS) and the Well-Being Project, continues this Saturday (27) the program "Sieds for Life: Your Health First", encouraging and practicing physical activities, a discussion circle with health professionals, and medical and psychological care for the staff of the State Public Security System, reinforcing the importance of care and prevention for mental health, in reference to the Yellow September campaign, a month dedicated to care and prevention of suicide. The program started on Friday (26) in Belém.

Created in 2022, the Well-Being Project, linked to Segup, offers biopsychosocial assistance to the staff of the Public Security System and their dependents, promoting care for all those who dedicate their lives daily to the population, as highlighted by Ualame Machado, head of Segup.
“The actions promoted by Segup, through the Project, reinforce the importance of caring for our greatest investment, which is people. Therefore, in order for them to provide the best service to the population, everyone needs to receive this encouragement and care. Another action carried out with care, lectures, and encouragement for physical activity, integrating the Sieds staff in a moment of relaxation, makes all the difference in continuing with daily missions. We will continue to develop multiple actions like this, aiming not only to train but also to look at those on the other side of the table providing service to society, thus strengthening those who dedicate a good part of their day to caring for others,” emphasized the secretary.

Dialogue - The first stage of the program was held in the auditorium of the Scientific Police of Pará, on the morning of Friday (26), gathering 82 public servants in a discussion circle that addressed self-care and quality of life with professionals from the fields of dentistry, nutrition, and psychology, as well as physical education professionals. On site, nurses and the on-duty psychologist also conducted 31 consultations.

For psychologist Nathaniely Palheta, who participated in the program, creating a support network among qualified professionals and the staff is essential for them to access the biopsychosocial services offered and receive the necessary support.
“It is important to promote mental health care not only in September, a month dedicated to life care, but throughout the year to encourage the practice of follow-up not only after illness. Many times we believe we do not have demands to bring to a health professional, and this accumulation of emotional burden we carry, combined with work routines and other personal issues, ends up manifesting in our bodies as well. After that, it becomes more difficult to facilitate the return of that person after reaching the extreme. Actions like this are of utmost importance for creating a support network between staff and health professionals for the prevention of any problems in a quicker and more effective manner,” stated the psychologist.
Physical Activity - The program “Sieds for Life” concluded with a breakfast and outdoor physical activity this Saturday (27), at the Military Fire Brigade Command. About 60 public servants participated in running, walking, and stretching, reinforcing the importance of keeping the body moving and caring for health for a better quality of life.

“The event Sieds For Life: Your Health First was conceived in the month of Yellow September, which is a month for the prevention of self-harm and suicide, to promote awareness about self-care, the preservation of life, the improvement of quality of life, and not specifically to talk about suicide, but rather to discuss positive ways to stay healthy, thus raising awareness about self-care strategies. On the first day, there was a discussion circle, where various health professionals, including a doctor, a nutritionist, a psychiatrist, a dentist, a physical educator, and a psychologist spoke on this theme. It was very productive in terms of bringing reflection on mental and physical health care, an exchange, a debate where participants could ask questions and engage in dialogue. The second day aimed to strengthen the importance of practicing physical activity to maintain quality of life, in a leisure moment, and to gather with staff and families. The purpose of the work is to ensure this partnership and integration with public security agencies, to work for the health of our staff,” informed Captain Luana Alves, coordinator of the Well-Being Project and the program.

The collaborative work among staff from the Security System agencies strengthens the exchange of knowledge and the experiences lived daily, according to Lieutenant Colonel PM Iuri Melo, representative of the Integrated Center for Psychosocial Care of the Military Police (Ciap).

“Events like this promoted by Segup are important for the exchange of information and experiences among the various agencies that make up the Public Security System. These various agencies have quite heterogeneous realities. They have very different supports among themselves, and moments like this, on this theme, allow us to exchange experiences, expertise, including regarding legislative proposals for internal adjustments in the reality of each of these agencies. We have to think of these actions as investments. The more each one invests preventively in themselves, in their mental health, in self-knowledge, the more chances we have of having fewer family and work-related problems. We can provide a more humanized, more professional service to the community,” said the lieutenant colonel.
Staff from Segup, Military Police, Civil Police, Military Fire Brigade, Scientific Police, and the State Secretariat for Penitentiary Administration (Seap) participated in the action.
