Program "Future Scientists 2026" is open for applications for female students and teachers
An initiative coordinated by Uepa integrates a scientific immersion aimed at female students and teachers from the public network, promoting gender equity in the fields of science and technology

The project “The World of Insects,” developed at the State University of Pará (Uepa), is part of the Scientific Immersion 2026 of the “Future Scientists” program, conducted by the Center for Strategic Technologies of the Northeast (Cetene). The initiative aims to bring female students and teachers from the public education system closer to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), contributing to the promotion of gender equity in the professional market.
Applications are open until October 6, on this website, and are aimed at second-year students and high school teachers. The project is coordinated by Professor Jéssica Herzog, who leads the second edition of the activity. The focus of the project is to stimulate interest and increase the participation of women in the fields of Science and Technology, bringing students and teachers closer to research centers and higher education institutions.
In the first edition, the project had the participation of five people: four second-year students and one high school teacher. At campus XIX of Uepa, in Salvaterra, Marajó, the executing team also included two students from the Biological Sciences degree, in addition to a teacher and a student from the Food Technology course, who acted as a monitor. “We also had collaborations from professionals and monitors from other institutions, such as UFPA-Soure and the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi (MPEG). This interdisciplinary approach was essential, especially to contextualize the importance of insects on the island of Marajó and highlight the role of insects, such as the tucumã worm, in regional culture,” emphasizes Professor Jéssica.
“For the next edition, future participants of the 'Future Scientists Program' can expect an immersive and transformative experience, with the opportunity to learn about insects and have direct experience in scientific research projects developed in Marajó, under the guidance of qualified researchers and monitors who are deeply dedicated to their areas of expertise in various collaborating institutions, such as the State University of Pará, Federal University of Pará, and Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi,” explains Professor Jéssica.
