More than 100,000 students from the 5th and 9th grades of Elementary Education and the 3rd year of High School in Pará will take the tests of the Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb) 2025 between October 20 and 31 this month, a national assessment that measures student performance, especially in Portuguese Language and Mathematics. In Pará, the application is coordinated by the State Department of Education (Seduc).

Deputy Secretary of Basic Education, Júlio Meirelles

For the Deputy Secretary of Basic Education of the Department, Júlio Meirelles, this moment represents the consolidation of a continuous effort to restore learning and strengthen pedagogy.

“During this period, we are conducting the Saeb application throughout Brazil, and here in Pará it is no different. There are more than 13,000 applications across state, municipal, and private networks. Today, for example, there are 1,106 applications happening throughout the State. This is a moment of gratitude and recognition, to thank each management team, the state government for the investments, and to acknowledge the effort of each teacher to get us here and start this process successfully,” he emphasized.

The secretary also highlighted the investments made by the State to ensure students' learning.

“Throughout the year, we focused on restoring learning, with the acquisition of teaching materials suitable for the students' reality, ongoing training for teachers and principals, and engagement actions in all regions. We conducted 40 caravans throughout Pará to listen to schools, closely monitor challenges, and support pedagogical work. The State is very confident that we will have an excellent application and results that will continue to show Pará as a reference in public education,” said Júlio Meirelles.

The government of Pará continues to value the efforts of schools that achieve their goals. The units that reach the agreed results will receive the 14th, 15th, 16th, and even the 16th and a half salary as a way to recognize the commitment of education professionals throughout the State.

Mobilization in schools

At the Aldebaro Klautau State School, located in the Cordeiro de Farias neighborhood in Belém, more than 100 students from the 9th grade of Elementary Education took the tests in the morning shift on this Monday (20), and another 80 from the 3rd year of High School took the assessments in the afternoon. The school achieved, in the last Basic Education Development Index (Ideb), a score of 5.3 in Elementary Education and 4.7 in High School, above the national average.

Director of Aldebaro Klautau School, Rosiane Garcia

The school's director, Rosiane Garcia, highlighted the team's dedication during the preparation of the students.

“We prepared the students with reinforced classes, using teaching materials from Prepara Pará, restoring learning, and activities with Chromebooks in the Make room. The teachers received specific training, and we had psychological support, meetings with parents, and motivational actions. The expectation is high and positive; we believe we will exceed last year's goals,” she stated.

Commitment to quality

For the head of the Regional Education Directorate (DRE) Belém 8, Juliana Lourinho, the engagement of the schools shows that the public network is increasingly prepared to advance.

“Our regional encompasses neighborhoods with social challenges, but we have quality public education, made with commitment. The infrastructures of the schools are improving, and the teachers are becoming more qualified, with support from Seduc. Quality is in the building, but mainly in the pedagogical work of the teacher in the classroom,” she emphasized.

Student Jéssika Beatriz Cunha dos Reis, from the 9th grade

Student Jéssika Beatriz Cunha dos Reis, from the 9th grade, reported feeling confident in the test. “I found it easy because we studied a lot. The books and handouts helped a lot; it was everything that was on the test. The preparation from the teachers was great,” she said.

Pará in national spotlight

In 2024, Pará achieved historic growth in the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb), rising from 26th to 6th place in the national ranking. The result is the fruit of integrated work in mobilization, training, and valuing education professionals, combined with the state government's investments in school infrastructure, teacher training, and pedagogical actions aimed at restoring learning.
