"The Secret Agent" has a pre-screening this Saturday (1st) at Cine Líbero Luxardo
The schedule also includes a presentation of the remastered 4K version of "Incendies" and the premieres of "The Son of a Thousand Men" and "Advice from a Retired Serial Killer"
Cine Líbero Luxardo, in Belém, begins its new programming this Thursday (30), with major premieres and re-releases. Among the highlights of the schedule is the pre-screening of the highly anticipated feature by Kleber Mendonça Filho, "The Secret Agent", which will be shown on Saturday (1st) at 7 PM. In addition to it, the films "Incendies"; "The Son of a Thousand Men" and "Advice from a Retired Serial Killer" complete the schedule starting from 3 PM.
One of the most devastating plot twists in cinema history will return to the big screen. "Incendies", from 2010, receives a remastered 4K version. The re-release celebrates the 15th anniversary of the original premiere of the film, which is considered by many to be Denis Villeneuve's great masterpiece. The director has in his portfolio major hits such as "Dune"; "Blade Runner 2049" and "Arrival", in addition to being at the helm of the upcoming "007" franchise.
"Incendies" is a co-production between Canada and France, nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. In the plot, twins Simon and Jeanne travel to the Middle East in search of the secrets left in a letter by their mother, played by Lubna Azabal. There, they discover a hidden brother and a father they thought was dead. In the silence of the revelations, they also find truths about themselves.
Meanwhile, "The Son of a Thousand Men" follows the story of Crisóstomo, played by Rodrigo Santoro, a lonely fisherman who undergoes a journey of personal transformation. The character, initially isolated and struggling with relationships, encounters other individuals who share similar experiences of inadequacy to established social standards.
Based on the work of Valter Hugo Mãe, the film explores a new perspective on masculinity, presenting a protagonist who represents a counterpoint to the stereotypes traditionally associated with male characters in cinema. The story proposes a reflection on fatherhood as a process of listening and mutual learning, distancing itself from concepts based on imposition and violence.
In "Advice from a Retired Serial Killer", a writer experiencing creative block, named Keane, is going through a tense moment in his career and marriage. Having not written a book in four years, he suddenly finds himself facing a divorce request from his wife Suzie, tired of her husband's excuses and lack of ambition.
While trying to sell a crime novel about serial killers, Keane is approached by a mysterious man named Kollmick, who claims to be a retired serial killer and offers his expertise to Keane. Suddenly, the young author finds himself in a peculiar friendship with the strange man.
Literary advisor by night, during the day, Kollmick, almost by accident, also begins to act as Keane's marriage therapist, helping the writer heal the wounds of his relationship with Suzie. However, the suspicious wife begins to suspect that she might be the next victim of the strange killer.
Pre-screening of "The Secret Agent"
The highlight of the schedule is the pre-screening of the anticipated feature "The Secret Agent", which will be shown on Saturday, November 1st, at 7 PM. The film is set in Recife in 1977 and follows the story of Marcelo (Wagner Moura), a technology specialist trying to leave behind a dark past upon returning to his hometown in search of tranquility. However, the city reveals itself as a territory of political tension and secrets.
Before reaching Brazilian screens, "The Secret Agent" gained prominence at major festivals around the world. The feature opened the 34th Biarritz Amérique Latine Festival in France, from September 20 to 26, after its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received four awards: Best Direction (Kleber Mendonça Filho), Best Actor (Wagner Moura), as well as the FIPRESCI Prize (International Federation of Film Critics) and the "Art et Essai" Prize, awarded by AFCAE (French Association of Art and Essay Cinema).
