New bridge between Icoaraci and Outeiro brings quality to the daily lives of nearly 400,000 people
The population of Belém gains greater mobility and safety in crossing between the two districts of the capital of Pará
The new Pastor Firmino Gouveia bridge, which connects the districts of Icoaraci and Outeiro, is already changing the daily lives of those who live and work in the Metropolitan Region of Belém (RMB). Delivered by the state government on October 18, the cable-stayed structure represents a milestone of modernity, integration, and development for about 400,000 people who depend daily on the crossing.
Resident of Icoaraci, the self-employed Rosivaldo Silva took his family to see the bridge and highlighted the positive impact of the work on the lives of the population. “Before this construction, we depended on a small boat to make the crossing, which had precarious conditions, and we spent much more time traveling. This bridge has brought many benefits to us who need to travel here. It looks beautiful, the road is of quality, and it will facilitate everyone's movement. We took the opportunity to come as a family to see it,” says Rosivaldo.
Benefits - In addition to boosting local commerce, increasing property values, and enhancing the flow of visitors towards the freshwater beaches of Outeiro and the artisanal and gastronomic hub of Icoaraci, the new bridge ensures more safety and mobility to strengthen the development of the RMB, also influencing the growth of tourism.
“Just a few days after the delivery, we have already noticed significant improvements in the quality of life of the population, with reduced travel time to schools, health units, and workplaces. Besides bringing communities closer together, the work strengthens commerce, generates jobs and income, and boosts tourism, consolidating the government's commitment to delivering modern and lasting infrastructure for the benefit of all Paranaenses,” highlights the State Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Adler Silveira.
Safety - The bridge is 414 meters long and 10.5 meters wide, following the most modern engineering standards, combining aesthetics, safety, and durability. It is supported by steel cables (stays) connected to a central mast and was designed to ensure smooth traffic flow and resistance over the years, establishing itself as a new postcard of the capital of Pará. During the construction of the structure, the work generated 120 direct jobs and about 200 indirect jobs, boosting the local economy and benefiting workers from various sectors.
According to the mototaxi driver Gleiber Neves, “the flow has improved a lot, especially for us who work with transportation. With the opening of the bridge, new travel routes may emerge, and this will directly reflect in our pockets. The road is like a ‘carpet’, I don’t even have words to say how much better it is, and it makes life easier for those who make the crossing.”
Housewife Tatiane Lobo has started walking on the new road. “I was able to go back and forth on the bridge as physical exercise, and I was happy to have such a beautiful space to practice activity. Besides the mobility that the bridge strengthens in our city, it also serves as an incentive for us to take care of our health,” emphasizes the resident.
