Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology visit Peace Factories
In Belém, the delegation also closely followed the results of inclusive activities promoting education, art, sports, and professionalization
Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), from the United States, visited the Peace Factory in the Cabanagem neighborhood of Belém last Thursday (13). At the site, in addition to visiting the citizenship complex facilities, they had the opportunity to closely follow the results achieved by students involved in innovative technology projects, offered through a partnership between the State Government and the American institution.
Held at the Peace Factories located in the Metropolitan Region of Belém, the Amazon Maker program offered courses in "Digital Game Programming with Scratch" and "Programming and Robotics: Digital Education for Environmental Justice," which presented new perspectives and learning opportunities for the communities served.
In the activities conducted in the technology rooms of the UsiPaz, with the participation of professionals from the State Secretariat of Science, Technology, Higher Education, Professional and Technological Education (Sectet), students had the opportunity to dive into fundamental themes related to sustainability, the Amazon, and technology, contributing ideas that directly engage with the challenges discussed during the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), held in Belém.
During the courses, participants developed creative projects that digitally and interactively explore actions aimed at reforestation, material reuse, and river cleaning, demonstrating that technological education can be a powerful ally in building a more sustainable future.
“The Peace Factories are beautiful facilities that offer an incredible variety of services to people. We are very happy to support this mission of bringing all these valuable services to the communities here in Belém. Certainly, we can help with the classes being taught here and also with the resources used in the technology classes, to develop new ideas and services that can be brought to the communities,” stated American researcher Kent Larson, director of MIT City Science, a group that develops work and research aimed at exploring new visions for urban communities and improving the social, environmental, and economic performance of cities.
According to the director of the Articulation and Institutional Relations Center of the Citizenship Articulation Secretariat (NARI/SEAC), Julio Alejandro Jélvez Quezada, the visit also aimed to align details to continue the work being done, expanding the offer of technology courses, in partnership with MIT, to as many operational Peace Factories as possible.
