The Regional Public Hospital of Marajó (HRPM), in Breves, held a special action on Friday (14) in commemoration of the National Day for Diabetes Prevention, conducted by the multiprofessional team of the Hemodialysis Center. The initiative focused on health education and welcoming chronic kidney patients, reinforcing the importance of information for daily care. Nursing, Nutrition, and Psychology professionals led a discussion on essential care.

During the meeting, informational materials were distributed, and patients were able to clarify doubts and share experiences. The team emphasized that diabetes is one of the main causes of Chronic Kidney Disease, highlighting the importance of continuous monitoring and healthy habits.

For Jessica Galucio, clinical nutritionist at HRPM, "talking about healthy eating is always important and fundamental for the health and well-being of the population. Today, on the day that addresses diabetes prevention, conducting an action with hemodialysis patients and their companions was essential," she stated.

She added that the action promoted awareness and emphasized the importance of treatment. "We guided about appropriate foods and explained the glycemic index of foods, as well as the importance of self-care, which was worked on with the nursing team. They explained about diabetic foot and the risks that small wounds can cause."

Approval - During the educational action held at the hospital, patient Marilucia Pantoja Gomes, 38, spoke about the relevance of the initiative and shared a bit of her experience in hemodialysis treatment, which she has been undergoing for almost two years at HRPM.

"I knew that the month of November focuses on diabetes prevention. It’s good to have someone explain what diabetes means. Many people still don’t know why the disease appears in the blood. Now we understand better," pointed out Marilucia.

The patient also praised the performance of the hospital's multiprofessional team. "My rating for the team is 10. I get along very well with everyone here. I even say that when I leave, I will cry from missing them," she said emotionally.

Having been on hemodialysis for 1 year and 11 months, Marilucia highlights that the care received has been fundamental for her quality of life. "I think the treatment is great. From the ICU to hemodialysis, I have never given a low rating. I always tell my friends: value it, because here we find a good hospital to get treatment," she stated.

Data - From January to October 2025, HRPM recorded 5,304 hemodialysis sessions.
