A technical cooperation agreement was signed on Tuesday, the 18th, at the Green Zone, between the Secretary of Agricultural Development and Fisheries (Sedap) and the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Institute (IDSM).

The agreement establishes the improvement of projects such as strengthening participatory management processes of natural resources for sustainable economic development, the conservation of biodiversity, and the maintenance of carbon stocks in floodable areas of the Amazon, as well as a modern and sustainable participatory path for the future of Amazonian mangroves.

Orlando Lobato, director of fisheries at Sedap, explained that this partnership involves scientific research and technical knowledge with shared resource management. "The Mamirauá Institute will finance resources precisely to implement improvements in the quality of life of the people living in our mangrove forest, in the mangroves, who work in the extractive reserves we have today."

The general director of the Mamirauá Institute, João Valsecchi, states that the partnership between Sedap and the Institute is of utmost importance, especially in the context of regional development of public policies. "At this moment, thinking about sustainable development, in the context of climate change, and the impact we need to generate for local communities, this is a fundamental partnership alongside an agency responsible for public policies with the research institute of the Ministry of Science and Technology that generates knowledge to be the basis for the actions implemented in the territory."

President of Alepa, Deputy Chicão Melo signing the term

The State has 16 municipalities distributed across 14 Extractive Reserves (Resex) along the Pará coast. The agreement aims to support, among other things, sustainable transportation of crabs and training for residents of the Resex in management: from extraction and transportation to sale. In August of this year, as part of joint actions, Sedap and Mamirauá held the crab fair in the municipality of Soure, in the Marajó archipelago, with the aim of strengthening participatory management processes of natural resources focused on sustainable economic development.
