In honor of Mother's Day, celebrated on May 11, the Dr. Roberto Macedo Emergency Room (PSRM), located on Augusto Montenegro Avenue, in the Parque Guajará neighborhood of Belém, held a special event on Monday (12) aimed at mothers hospitalized in the unit. The initiative was organized by the Humanization Working Group (GTH), with voluntary support from the Hospital Chaplaincy.

The program included moments of spirituality, words of faith, poetry recitation, and the distribution of gifts, providing warmth and affection to mothers who, for health reasons, spent the date away from their homes.

The Humanization analyst, Watuzi Rabelo, highlighted the importance of bringing comfort to mothers facing difficult situations in the hospital environment. “Being in a hospital on this date is challenging, especially due to the absence of children and family companionship. Therefore, we wanted to value these women who, even amidst pain and worry, continue to represent love, care, resilience, and strength,” she stated.

She also emphasized that many mothers present at PSRM were accompanying their children, parents, or even their own mothers. “We wanted to show that they were not forgotten. On the contrary: they are deeply admired. The reading of a poem, the delivery of a gift, and a biblical message were ways to honor them and recognize the greatness of being a mother. One mother, who was accompanying her hospitalized father, was very emotional when she remembered her children, from whom she was separated on Sunday. Small gestures like this can bring solace and comfort,” reported the sociologist.

The action, carried out in partnership with volunteers from the Social Chaplaincy Beneficent Association (ABECAS), moved many mothers. Laiane Borges, a resident of Bragança, in northeastern Pará, was one of them. She has been in the hospital for 13 days, accompanying her youngest son in treatment, and reported her emotion at being surprised by the tribute.

Laiane Borges, from Bragança in northeastern Pará, approved the hospital's idea of remembering mothers who are far from home and their children

“It was very special to know that they remembered us. Being away from my children is difficult, and this remembrance brought joy to my heart. I cried, but I also thanked God for being here taking care of my son. Receiving a gift, a message, and a poem was wonderful. And the best news is that my son was discharged – that was the greatest gift I could receive,” she said, emotional.

In addition to the action aimed at patients, the GTH also prepared special decorations and a photo panel for the staff mothers of the unit. The program also included the delivery of gifts organized by the hospital's Nutrition and Dietetics Service (SND).
