The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Racial Equality and Human Rights (SEIRDH), promoted this Tuesday (3), another racial literacy course for the servers of the Pará Socio-Educational Service Foundation (Fasepa). The initiative aims to deepen the understanding of the different types of racism, training professionals for a more conscious and effective action in combating ethnic-racial inequalities both inside and outside the workplace.

The training was conducted by the Racial Equality coordinator of SEIRDH, Roberta Sodré, and according to her, the course aims to develop a critical awareness of racism and its manifestations, as well as its impacts on the lives of black people.

"The purpose of the course is to promote understanding and respect for ethnic-racial differences. And when we direct, as DIR, to public servants, it is for each person to understand how racism manifests and to have a daily commitment to combating it both inside and outside the workplace."

The training is seen as a fundamental step to improve service to the population in deprivation of liberty. Anne Sousa, lawyer and legal advisor of the Socio-Educational Service Directorate of Fasepa, emphasizes the importance of the technical and legal learning provided by the course.

"This training allows the technicians of the Directorate to reflect on their roles in the socio-educational field and to be multidisciplinary in the spaces of deprivation and restriction of liberty. It is important to remember the historical process regarding race and ethnicity, to improve service to the population, which is mostly black and is currently undergoing socio-educational measures, as well as the institutional relations inside and outside the Foundation regarding racial issues," explains the lawyer.

The initiative of the State Government, through the Racial Equality Directorate (DIR), reinforces the commitment to promoting racial equality and building a more equitable society. By training its servers, the state seeks to foster an anti-racist culture in public institutions, as well as interpersonal relationships outside the workplace.
