Forum gains an extra edition in the middle of the year and reinforces the State's engagement in the global race for sustainable solutions

The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for the Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas), is promoting this Tuesday and Wednesday (June 10 and 11) in Belém, a special edition of the Pará Forum on Climate Change and Adaptation (FPMAC). The event will present the new Pará Without Fire Program and Brazil's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), in addition to discussing climate and environmental policies in the State, with a focus on bioeconomy.

The meeting will be held starting at 8 am, at the Semas Bosque headquarters (Travessa Lomas Valentinas, No. 2100, Marco neighborhood), with free participation and registrations made on-site, limited to the capacity of the space. Since its creation in 2019, the FPMAC has consolidated itself as the main space for collective construction, dialogue, and monitoring of state policies to combat climate change, involving representatives from the public sector, productive sector, academia, civil society, and traditional communities.

Among the most anticipated moments of the program is the presentation of the Pará Without Fire Program, launched on the last World Environment Day (June 5). The state strategy for the prevention and combat of forest fires will be detailed by the Secretary of Environment, Climate and Sustainability, Raul Protázio Romão.

“We have reached the 7th edition of the FPMAC, this time in the middle of the year, bringing the main advances of the State's environmental and climate policy, not only from Semas's actions but also from other institutions that are part of the State Plan for the Amazon Now. We made this extra edition precisely to increase the transparency of these advances,” said Raul Protázio. “Spaces like this Forum strengthen the connection between government actions and society, expanding popular participation in this process.”

Another highlight will be the participation of the National Secretary for Climate Change of the Ministry of the Environment (MMA), Aloísio Melo, who will present Brazil's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for COP30. Brenda Maradei, from the COP30 Committee of Pará, will also be present to update the audience on the progress of the organization of the Conference in Belém.

Bioeconomy will have guaranteed space in the program, with the participation of Camille Bemerguy, Deputy Secretary of Bioeconomy at Semas. She will present the Monitoring Platform of the State Bioeconomy Plan and the Bioeconomy and Innovation Park of the Amazon, fundamental initiatives to strengthen a sustainable and inclusive economy in the region.
