Students from the Professora Anésia State School in Belém took on a new challenge this Tuesday (17): taking care of a vertical garden. The space was implemented by the Pará Sanitation Company (Cosanpa) as part of the programs commemorating "Green June," a month dedicated to raising awareness about environmental preservation.

With approximately ten pots, the garden received seeds of vegetables such as parsley, rosemary, and green onions. The partnership between the Company and the School aims to demonstrate, through contact with the earth, how caring for the environment is an educational tool for children, as explained by Carla Pontes, environmental engineer and technician in the Social Programs Advisory of Cosanpa.

“The Company develops various practical activities on environmental education daily to show the role of each citizen in caring for the environment. With children, these activities awaken this feeling, and they can learn and multiply the experiences outside of school,” said Carla Pontes.

Among the guardians of the new garden is Michele Nobre, 11 years old. A resident of the Curió-Utinga neighborhood in Belém, she already has plans for maintaining the space. “Our responsibility is to not let trash accumulate, water every day, and if necessary, add more plants so that the garden stays big, healthy, and brings harmony to the School,” says the student.

The vice-principal of the Professora Anésia School, Aline Santos, emphasized the importance of inter-institutional partnerships for the development of projects focused on environmental education and the strengthening of the guidelines of the Environmental Education, Sustainability, and Climate Policy from the State Department of Education (Seduc).

“Today, by initiative of the State Government through the Department of Education, environmental education is a curricular component. With this, our students and the school network itself have more access to information, project development, and the establishment of important partnerships with other institutions that join efforts in promoting sustainability,” she explains.

Water Run - To conclude “Green June,” Cosanpa will hold the Water Run on the 29th at the Utinga State Park "Camillo Vianna." With walking (4km) and running (8km) modalities, the event is open for registration until June 25, through the website www.pscronos.com.br, at a cost of R$ 60.00.

The concentration for the run and walk will be at 5 am at Utinga Park, in front of Ideflor-Bio. The race will start at 6 am, followed by the walk. Throughout the event, there will be hydration points, and at the finish line, a structure will be set up for the mineral replenishment of the runners.
