On the afternoon of this Friday (11), the hall near the Pediatric Inpatient Unit of the Dr. Roberto Macedo Emergency Room (PSRM) in Belém was the stage for a joyful and relaxed afternoon for the hospitalized children, who were able to leave their beds and enjoy educational games, bingo, puzzles, memory games, dominoes, among other playful activities. The action promoted by the State Emergency Room Humanization Committee is part of the project "Sextou na Pediatria", which this July is addressing the theme "Summer Camps", aiming to offer playful and recreational activities that evoke the school vacation period.

According to the Humanization analyst at PSRM, Watuzi Rebelo, it is important to make this month special for hospitalized children, as it is the month of school vacations, a time when they would normally be traveling, playing with friends in parks or squares, enjoying their free time before returning to classes.

"Being hospitalized during the holidays can be an even more difficult and frustrating experience for children, as they feel deprived of the typical activities and fun of this time. The playful activities we have planned for this month, which include painting, drawing, educational games, and movie sessions, will help distract them from treatment and the hospital routine, reducing fear, anxiety, and stress," emphasizes the analyst.

She highlights that "the project 'Sextou na Pediatria', which aims to bring joy to children through playful activities, even in a delicate moment like hospitalization, is an important ally in providing this humanized care during the vacation month, a time that, if they were not hospitalized, would be dedicated to fun and rest. Therefore, every Friday this July will be special for our Pediatric children, who are having a little fun as if they were on vacation."

Eduardo Oliveira Santana, 7 years old, from Anajás, Marajó island, did not hide his joy at having stepped out of the routine of health care to participate in the activities. "I really liked going out of the room to play outside. If I don't go home, I'll come again next time. I liked all the games, the book, and the colored brushes I used to paint the drawing," said Eduardo.

Rosane Ramos, from the Val-de-Cans neighborhood, mother of the patient Wendy Jasmim Ramos, 7 years old, praised the Humanization Committee's idea of dedicating Fridays in July to the project "Sextou na Pediatria" to work on the theme "Summer Camp" with hospitalized children.

"I thought this idea of creating a moment of relaxation and joy was great, because since it is the vacation month, children usually have all the time to play, go to streams or the beach, but being sick in a hospital, they can't do any of that. I really liked the initiative; it was very good to see my daughter relaxed, happy, participating in the activities.

Service - The structure of PSRM reinforces the commitment to excellence in emergency and urgent care in Belém, the metropolitan region, districts, and neighborhoods surrounding Augusto Montenegro Avenue, where the health unit is located, offering 119 beds distributed among adult and pediatric emergency care, hospitalizations, and ICUs, in addition to six surgical rooms equipped for medium and high complexity procedures, including minimally invasive ones, such as videolaparoscopies, which reduce recovery and hospitalization time.

Managed by the Acqua Institute, in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), PSRM has established itself as a symbol of the reconfiguration of public health in Pará, providing Emergency and Urgent care for Belém and the metropolitan region, operating 24 hours a day, attending to critical cases in specialties such as general surgery, vascular, pediatric, thoracic, bucomaxillofacial, and neurosurgery.
