Strengthening its commitment to teaching and research, the Hospital da Mulher do Pará (HMPA) began, on this Monday (22), the first class of students for the mandatory curricular internship. The students of the Medicine course at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) were welcomed by the unit's management, marking a milestone for the institution.

The technical director of HMPA, Dr. Rodrigo Maneschy, highlighted that the start of the internships realizes a project that is a pillar of the unit. “It is a plan that has existed since the conception of the hospital and is now becoming a reality, consolidating the Hospital da Mulher as a teaching hospital as well. We start with the mandatory internship in Medicine, in the practice of gynecology, but we already envision expanding the offer to other areas and specialties, such as Nursing, Nutrition, and Physiotherapy, in partnership with educational institutions,” he explained.

In total, 24 students from the 12th semester of the medicine course are participating in the internship, which lasts six weeks in sectors such as the surgical block and outpatient clinic.

The general director of HMPA, Nelma Machado, emphasized the relevance of the experience. “We have care lines focused on women's health that begin with welcoming and extend to interdisciplinary care with the multiprofessional team. Therefore, it is a unique moment to share our expertise, humanized care, and specialized attention, reaffirming our role in teaching and research,” she stated.

Nurse Daiane Santos, responsible for the Teaching and Research Department of HMPA, reinforced the alignment between the hospital and academia. “The internship flow is defined by the State Department of Public Health and the educational institutions. Here, we direct students according to their area of expertise and the teaching plan,” she highlighted.

For Ronaldo Cunha, one of the new interns of the class, the opportunity brings expectations and responsibility. “I have high expectations, especially because the hospital is new and we are experiencing this at the final stretch of the course. It will be essential to have this direct contact with gynecological demands, in the surgical center and in other sectors,” said the medical student.

Student Vanessa Freitas also emphasized the importance of practical experience. “This internship is very relevant not only for my training but also for the population, considering that the hospital is a reference in women's health care,” she noted.

The nephrologist and vice-director of the Faculty of Medicine at UFPA, Lucas Acataussu, explained that the internship is aimed at the final improvement of training. “The idea is to provide a deeper experience in gynecology, in procedures and clinical evolutions. These students are in the 12th semester, in the pre-graduation period, and this is a moment to consolidate the learning acquired throughout the course,” concluded the professional.
