Sectet presents panel on Agenda 2030 at UN conference
The initiative was led by the State Technical Education School of Pará (Eetepa) and highlighted the coordination of the panel by Professor Sarah Batalha, a teacher at Eetepa Francisco Coimbra Lobato, located in Santarém.
The government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Science, Technology and Higher, Professional and Technological Education (Sectet), participated in the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) with the presentation of the panel "Science, education and governance: the strategic role of institutions in the implementation of the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda," held this Monday (10), in the green area of the event (Green Zone).
The initiative was led by the State Technical Education School of Pará (Eetepa) and highlighted the coordination of the panel by Professor Sarah Batalha, a teacher at Eetepa Francisco Coimbra Lobato, located in Santarém. Representing the West of Pará at one of the largest environmental events in the world, the educator expressed satisfaction in bringing to COP30 the results of a teaching methodology based on the language of the 2030 Agenda, implemented since 2024, with planning that began the previous year.
"The panel is an opportunity to showcase the leadership of West Pará and how we are already acting in favor of global, climate, and environmental agendas. It is a significant return for the entire community of the State of Pará and the Amazon," said Sarah. She also highlighted that the school in Santarém is the only one among the 38 EETEPAs in the State to have a panel presented at COP30, which represents an important recognition of the work developed by the institution.
The panel had an inter-institutional character, bringing together representatives from organized civil society (OAB), the Federal University, and the federal government, through the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic. The goal was to promote discussion on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthen cooperation among different sectors in implementing the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
The Projects Coordinator of the National Commission for the Sustainable Development Goals, and representative of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Patrícia Carvalho, emphasized the importance of the initiative. "Events like this are essential to connect institutions and advance the SDG agenda. With five years remaining until the end of the 2030 Agenda, there are still ambitious goals to be achieved, and this requires the commitment of local governments, civil society, and businesses," she stated.
Also present at the panel as an audience member, Professor Alex Santos da Silva from the Federal University of West Pará (Ufopa) emphasized the relevance of the discussion on the SDGs in education. "We see a growing movement in Santarém, but we need to advance further. The presence of authorities, specialists, and an engaged audience reinforces the importance of integrating social equality into academic practices," he highlighted.
Joining efforts to the global agenda, the EETEPA of Santarém ended last year with 92 projects linked to the SDGs, reaffirming the commitment of Pará's technical education to citizen training and sustainable development in the Amazon.
