The students from the State Technical School of Pará (EETEPA) Prof. Maria de Nazaré Guimarães Macedo, located in Curuçá, in northeastern Pará, boarded on Tuesday afternoon (25) in Belém, heading to Campinas (SP), to participate in the in-person national stage of the Brazilian Geography Olympiad (OBG). The trip marks a historic moment for the school community and the municipality.

The classification came after the team secured first place overall in Pará in the Public School category, standing out among 961 registered teams across the state. Composed of three students and one guiding teacher, only three teams from Pará advanced to the in-person phase, where EETEPA achieved the best performance among public institutions, securing the gold medal at the state stage.

Held in three online phases and one in-person phase, the OBG brings together teams from all over the country to assess knowledge in General Geography, fundamentals of Basic and Applied Cartography, and the use of Geotechnologies, according to the guidelines of the current curricular bases.

The Curuçá team consists of 2nd-year high school students from the technical courses in Graphic Computing and Agriculture: Lorenzzo Costa, Reginaldo Neto, and Arthur Santos, under the guidance of teacher Me. Flávio Lima.

For Professor Flávio, the students' performance is the result of continuous and collaborative work. “The achievement reflects months of intense study, dedication, and preparation. These young people represent not only their peers but the entire municipality. It is a source of pride for teachers, families, and the Curuçá community,” he emphasized.

Among the students, the feeling is one of accomplishment and responsibility. Lorenzzo Costa emphasizes that participating in the national phase reaffirms the potential of public school students. “Getting this far shows that our effort was worth it. We studied a lot, overcame challenges, and now we want to demonstrate that young people from public schools have enormous capacity when given encouragement and opportunities. I am very happy and want to make the most of every learning opportunity from this experience,” he stated.

The national competition runs until November 28, when the award ceremony will take place, and the team remains confident. Arthur Santos, a participating student, expresses enthusiasm for the final challenge. “We are confident in an excellent result. We fought hard to get here, and we will give our best. May the gold medal come!” he celebrated.
