Blue Zone begins to be set up at Parque da Cidade for COP 30 in Belém

A 500,000 m² space transforms and receives pavilions, plenaries, and offices for delegations. Another legacy of leisure and inclusion for the population.

The countdown to the 2025 Climate Conference has reached a new milestone: since July 3, work has begun at Parque da Cidade to install the modular structures that will make up the Blue Zone — the official area where negotiations between countries, high-level panels, and bilateral meetings of COP 30 will take place on November 6 and 7, with the Leaders' Summit, and from November 10 to 21, at the Conference of the Parties.

Planned according to criteria of sustainability, urban integration, and accessibility, the conference infrastructure will occupy about 160,000 m² within a security perimeter of 240,000 m². The forecast is to erect more than 100 pavilions, in addition to two plenaries, catering, a social area, and a space larger than 25,000 m² designated for the offices of the delegations. All spaces will ensure full working conditions for representatives from over 190 countries that make up the UNFCCC.

Legacy already delivered to the population
Even before hosting COP 30, Parque da Cidade, with its 500,000 m², has been yielding social results. At the end of June, the Government of Pará inaugurated the permanent leisure area, featuring sports courts, a skatepark, a children's playground, an amphitheater, and bike paths, which today hosts the largest public vacation colony in the State, serving over 10,000 children. The Esplanade of Fountains, the first free public water park in Belém, operates with a capacity for 150 people simultaneously and fully accessible infrastructure.

When the COP Stage is completed, the park will feature two large buildings: the Creative Economy Center and the Gastronomic Center. This former airport now boasts an extensive green area, with over 2,500 trees planted and transplanted, 190,000 ornamental plants, and 83,000 square meters of grass, in addition to the preservation of native forest. The park also includes sustainable sewage treatment systems with wetlands, water treatment and reuse systems, and solar panels, as well as urban furniture designed for the Amazon climate, such as benches with thermal technology and water-repellent treatment.

Park closure in August
To facilitate the simultaneous setup of the Blue and Green Zones, the park will be closed to the public in early August and has been officially handed over to the Federal Government and the UN. This measure ensures the movement of equipment, the installation of pavilions, and the implementation of the security systems, clean transportation, and waste management outlined in the project.
